Assessments

Children are nationally assessed to ascertain their progress within school; they are assessed in 3 areas throughout their time in primary school.

Year One pupils will take part in the Statutory Phonics Screening check, which checks their ability to decode words.  They complete the screen again in Year Two if they don’t reach the expected standard in year one.

Year Two and Year Six pupils will sit the Standardised tests: Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) which take place at the end of each key stage, (Key Stage 1: infant phase and Key Stage 2: end of primary phase).

In Key Stage 2, the tests are more formal and school-level results are published in the national performance tables (League tables) allowing for comparison with other schools.  SATs cover core academic subjects – English, Maths and Science.

At Mossford Green, staff take care to adapt teaching methods to particular learning needs of the children and the subject being taught.

Teachers and the Upper Leadership Team continuously monitor progress through ongoing observations, discussions and informal tests.  Staff can use this information to indicate progress being made, to adapt teaching, planning and to review and analyse the curriculum, if needed.

Children are given timely feedback about their performance with the aim of helping them to set targets.
