Assessments

Children are nationally assessed to ascertain their progress within school; they are assessed at 5 points throughout their time in primary school.

Reception pupils undertake a baseline assessment within the first 6 weeks of starting school, they then are assessed against the Early Learning Goals (ELG) at the end of the Reception year. More information can be found at this link.

Year One pupils will take part in the Statutory Phonics Screening check, which checks their ability to decode words.  They complete the screen again in Year Two, if they don’t reach the expected standard in year one. More information can be found at this link.

Year Four pupils will take part in the statutory multiplication check, which checks their ability to recall multiplication facts up to 12x12, at speed. More information can be found at this link.

Year Six pupils will sit the Standardised tests: Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) .

In Key Stage 2, the tests are more formal and school-level results are published in the national performance tables (League tables) allowing for comparison with other schools.  Children will sit tests in reading; grammar, punctuation and spelling and Maths. They will also be formally assed by their teacher in writing and science.  More information can be found at this link.

Teachers and the Leadership Team continuously monitor progress through ongoing observations, discussions and informal tests.  Staff can use this information to indicate progress being made, to adapt teaching, planning and to review and analyse the curriculum, if needed.

Children are given timely feedback about their performance with the aim of helping them to set targets.
